Museum of Jewish Michigan
Support our newest initiative, the Museum of Jewish Michigan, a place to gather to touch and learn about the past and pass it on to the next generation. Your gift helps us engage Gallagher & Associates (the foremost museum-planning firm) to conduct a visitor experience plan and feasibility study — the playbook for how to open the museum's doors and keep them open. Let's make history together.
Opportunities for Support
Center for Knowledge Production
Our understanding of the past is dynamic and evolving. We continually interpret it through the lens of current events, new evidence, and new methods for reinterpreting old evidence. Your support helps professional historians conduct academic-quality research through archives, libraries, historical sites, and interviews. Help propel the process of discovering and explaining the details of past events and creating a foundation of knowledge to help us all take meaningful action in a world shaped by those events.
Center for Knowledge Production helps support:
- JHSM Research Fellowship Program
- Michigan Jewish History Journal
- Documentary Film: Jewish Labor in the Auto Industry
Center for Youth and Family Education

Center for Outreach
Groundbreaking programming and story-telling synergy often happen through exciting collaborations with other community organizations and institutions. In 2018, we were able to co-program with The Henry Ford on the challenging topic of Henry Ford’s anti-Semitism. To pursue these collaborative forays into impactful historical truth, we need the resources to support these projects. Your gift to the Center for Outreach enables us to duplicate this success and explore the world of possibilities for collaborative programming it opened up. In the last year alone, we have worked with a diverse array of institutions, including Flint Institute of Arts, the Dearborn Historical Museum, Hazon, Limmud Michigan, and Reboot.
Your gift to the Center for Outreach helps support:
- JHSM Outreach and Programming Efforts
Center for Communications
Help us get the word out. An organization is only as effective as its ability to share information. And JHSM depends on the Michigan Jewish History Bulletin and michjewishhistory.org to publicly recognize donors and partners, share information about research efforts and upcoming programs, and communicate our mission within and beyond the Jewish community. Maintaining, improving, and expanding these crucial communications platforms is the key to sustaining and growing the reach of the knowledge we are committed to creating and disseminating.
Your donation to the Center for Communications helps support:
- Michigan Jewish History Bulletin
- Michjewishhistory.org Website renovation
Center for Leadership
Compelling programming depends entirely on the excellence of our staff and docent corps. As demand for our expertise grows, your gift to the Center for Leadership makes it possible to recruit, train, and retain talented personnel who can expand the reach of our knowledge and increase the success of our mission.
Your gift to the Center for Leadership helps support:
- Professional Development
- Full-Time Director of Volunteer Programs

Your Planned Gift Ensures JHSM Will Tell Michigan's Jewish History for Generations
"When your children shall ask their parents in time to come." Joshua 4:21
JHSM's founders chose this proverb wisely. Since 1959 we have been dedicated to interpreting and highlighting the contributions of our people to our communities, state, nation, and the world.
The Joshua Society is a planned giving program that helps to ensure the continuity of our mission. Joshua Society members have notified us that JHSM has been named as a beneficiary in their will or estate plan

History matters,
especially now.
We firmly believe in history as activism. Our mission is to glean wisdom from the tragedies and triumphs of the past to path our future. In the classroom, the boardroom, or out in the community, JHSM brings the past into dialogue with the present to illuminate and advance the aims of social justice.
With your help, we can achieve our vision: illuminating the past for a brighter future.
