Greater West Bloomfield Historical Society (GWBHS) announces the unveiling of a new exhibit panel on local Jewish history, in partnership with yourJewish Historical Society of Michigan (JHSM)! This exhibit panel is part of the Greater West Bloomfield Diverse History Project in partnership with America250MI, the statewide commemoration of the nation’s 250th anniversary. We invite you to view the exhibit panel, enjoy refreshments (courtesy of Diamond Bakery) and expand your understanding of West Bloomfield’s Jewish history.
At 2:30 pm, remarks will be delivered by GWBHS officers and JHSM CEO Catherine Cangany, PhD. We also invite Jewish residents to share their experiences living in Greater West Bloomfield with us through GWBHS' Collecting Memories project, either in a written or audio format. These experiences will become part of the GWBHS online digital collection.
As part of the Greater West Bloomfield Diverse History Project, GWBHS is collaborating with expert organizations and community members to develop new exhibits highlighting Black, Chaldean/Iraqi Catholic, and Jewish history in Greater West Bloomfield. They will explore these communities’ choice to migrate, settle, and establish lives in Greater West Bloomfield, and their significant economic, religious, cultural experiences and contributions. The result will be a 6'x5’ floor-standing fabric exhibit panel for each group. Each panel will be displayed in rotation at the Orchard Lake Museum, then transported and displayed at other community locations.
