We collect, preserve, and curate the history of Michigan's Jewish communities. Our holdings include textiles, objects, manuscripts, documents, books, photographs, and an expansive compilation of more than 100 years of Jewish yearbooks, class photos, and reunion books. Representing the entire state, our collections help tell the stories of Jewish Michiganders past and present.
We maintain the Jewish Yearbook Collection, a trove of more than 2,500 yearbooks from throughout Michigan. Dating back to the early twentieth century, it contains materials from schools past and present. This community resource is an ongoing project, thanks to the efforts of our volunteers and donors.
The Judith Levin Cantor collection is comprised of papers, manuscripts, clippings, and other materials compiled by Cantor about the history of Jewish Michigan. Judith Levin Cantor, z"l was an author and historian and served as JHSM’s president from 1994 to 1996.
The Jeannie and Gershon Weiner MWWMD collection forms the foundation for the Michigan Women Who Made a Difference project, which documents the achievements of Michigan’s Jewish women. The collection includes primary and secondary sources related to the MWWMD biographies in our online archive.
